The split is real, and it is accelerating
A year ago, you could argue that AI in construction was still mostly experimental. That argument no longer holds. ServiceTitan's 2026 Commercial Specialty Contractor Industry Report, surveying over 1,000 commercial construction leaders, found that the share of contractors reporting measurable business impact from AI has jumped from 17% to 38% in twelve months. That is a doubling, and it changes the competitive calculus for every firm in the industry.
The firms pulling ahead are concentrating AI on the decisions that cost the most money: estimating and bid management. Automated estimating systems are now achieving 85 to 90% accuracy compared to manually prepared estimates, compressing a process that used to consume half a day into minutes.
Alex Kablanian, SVP and General Manager of Commercial & Construction Markets at ServiceTitan, framed it clearly: "The next AI leaders in the commercial and construction markets will be defined by how seamlessly intelligence is embedded across the entire workflow."
